  • JROTC Instructor Needed:

    Dear JROTC Community,

As many of you are aware, here at Shikellamy High School, we are currently conducting a search for a new Army Instructor for our JROTC courses. We have posted the position on our website, reached out to the Army, posted at the Carlisle Barracks and Fort Indiantown Gap. JROTC is a priority and we are working diligently to try to hire the next person to lead our amazing group of cadets. If you know anyone that might be interested, please reach out to them and encourage them to apply.

We do not currently have any substitutes that are certified to be able to teach JROTC, in the interim. If we are unable to secure an Instructor, by the beginning of the school year, we may have to temporarily put our JROTC classes on hold. This would mean that our JROTC students would have the opportunity to take a different course or a study hall, during the period that their JROTC class was scheduled.

Let’s work together to help find our next JROTC Instructor, prior to the start of school. Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions or questions and enjoy the remainder of your summer.

    Respectfully,

    Brandy M. Wiest

    Assistant Principal

    Shikellamy High School

  • The Mckinney-Vento Homeless Act

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Act guarantees a free and appropriate public education for all homeless children and youth.  Federal and state laws make the school district’s responsibility clear.

    • A student whose family becomes homeless may remain in the school he/she was attending prior to becoming homeless for the duration of the school year.

    • If it is feasible, a student may transfer to a school if it is closer to his/her transitional housing.

    • The receiving school may not prevent or delay the enrollment of a homeless child by requiring proof of residency or lack of documentation such as immunization records.

    • Transportation for homeless must begin within 5 school days, but sooner if possible.

    Dear Stakeholders,

Shikellamy High School has been identified by the Pennsylvania Department Education as a building qualifying for Additional Targeted Support and Improvement.  This designation was based on the performance and growth of special education students who took the Keystone Algebra, Biology and Literature exams. With support from PDE, Shikellamy High School will participate in a process to identify strengths and needs and formulate an improvement plan moving forward. If you have feedback that you feel would be valuable to us, feel free to contact us.
