PSAT (Preliminary SAT) Information

The PSAT is a standardized test that provides financial practice for the SAT.  It also gives you a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.

The PSAT measures:  1) critical reading skills; 2) math problem-solving skills; and 3) writing skills.

Why Should I Take the PSATs?

§  Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. You can then focus your preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.

§  See how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college.

§  Enter the competition for scholarships from NMSC (grade 11).

§  Help prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT.

§  Receive information from colleges when you check "yes" to Student Search Service.

§  This test is recommended for juniors who are planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college.

The PSAT will be administered at the Shikellamy High School on October 19, 2016

Registration will be available in the Guidance Office in September 2016.  At the time of registration, students will receive a practice test booklet with sample questions and answers.  Students are strongly advised to review the materials in order to prepare for the test.

The cost of the test is $15. The College Board makes fee waivers available for students in eleventh grade from low-income families who cannot afford the test fee.  See your counselor for more information about fee waivers.

PSAT results will be available in December 2016.
