Course Expectations

Algebra 2

Teacher:         Mr. Geiswhite



Textbook Used:  Prentice Hall Mathematics: Algebra 2; Bellman, Bragg, Charles, et al.

1.      Writing utensil – Students need to bring some sort of writing utensil to class daily. Notes may be done in pen or pencil. ALL GRADED ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE DONE IN PENCIL. I will not grade anything written in anything other than pencil.

2.      Notebook – Students are to bring their notebook to class every day.

3.      Calculator – Students are to bring a calculator to class daily. I recommend purchasing the TI-30XIIS. It can be purchased for around $15.

4.      Hall Pass – A student who wishes to leave the room at any time must take their hall pass.




1.      Students are expected to be in class and on time on a daily basis.

2.      If a student misses a day of class, it is their responsibility to make up any work/notes missed.

3.      If a student is absent on the day of a test, they are responsible to take the test the next day they are in class.

4.      If a student is absent the day of a review, they are responsible to take the test the next day they are in class. They will not be rewarded a “special review day.”




1.     Homework – Homework will be given most nights. Homework is graded on completion. It will be collected at the beginning of each class and graded for completion and work supporting the answers. (5 points each)

a.     Homework must be turned in on time.  Late homework will be counted as a 0%.

2.     Quizzes – Typically there will be 1 or 2 quizzes each chapter to break up the material. The quizzes will be similar to tests but are not worth as many points. (30-50 points each)

a.     Students that illegally miss class on the day of a quiz will be given a 0%.

3.     Tests – Tests will be given at the conclusion of each chapter. (100 Points)

a.     Students that illegally miss class on the day of a test will be given a 0%.

4.      Notebook Check – Notebooks will be graded quarterly.




            Cheating will obviously not be tolerated. If a student is caught cheating, they will receive a zero on the assignment and be sent to the office for disciplinary purposes.

Yearly breakdown of grades:

            Quarter 1: 23%

            Quarter 2: 23%

            Quarter 3: 23%

            Quarter 4: 23%

            Final Exam: 8%



Electronic Devices:

            All electronic devices must be away at all times while in class unless an exception is made.  This includes, but is not limited to, Chromebooks, cellphones, headphones/earbuds, tablets, etc.
